Yangtze River Channel Helps Jiujiang to Build a Regional Shipping Center
Recently, at Jiujiang Hongguang International Port, the Belize-registered international cargo ship "XI HE" loaded with 2,450 tons of calcium chloride set sail for Incheon Port in South Korea. This is the first international direct sailing vessel from Jiangxi in 2026 and the first international direct sailing ship in over a decade to enter and exit at Jiujiang Port.
Behind this breakthrough is the day and night guardianship of the 128-kilometer channel by the Jiujiang Channel Office of the Yangtze River. In 2025, Jiujiang Port's cargo throughput reached 241.2761 million tons, and container throughput reached 1.0502 million TEUs, with year-on-year growth of 8.4% and 4.27%, respectively, bringing Jiujiang closer to the goal of becoming a "golden seaport."
In response to the trend of larger ships and increased cargo volume, the Jiujiang Channel Office of the Yangtze River optimized the distribution of navigation aids, using multi-beam and drone technology for channel surveying, conducting 21 surveys in 2025, setting up 22 dedicated navigation aids, and maintaining navigation aids for 34,087 days. Meanwhile, the Jiujiang-Shanghai "daily class" has been improved for efficiency, the Jiujiang-Yangshan route has been increased to five classes per week, and the Jiujiang to Pyeongtaek Port in South Korea achieved its maiden voyage.
The Jiujiang Channel Office of the Yangtze River also promotes customized services with a "one enterprise, one policy" approach, regularly visiting water-related units to precisely meet the needs of terminal construction and operation. The average recovery time for navigation aid failures is 1.7 hours, and the maintenance normal rate has consistently exceeded 99.9%, providing solid channel support for Jiujiang to become an important node city in the Yangtze River Economic Belt.
